That's the conventional wisdom, but I think that the weather actually played to the Colts advantage. When the footing is bad you're much liklier to slip and fall when "reacting" (as on defense) then when "acting" as on offense.

The Bears offense only have to look as far as the nearest mirror for the reason why they were playing on defense so much during the game. The first quarter was pretty good to the Bears, it was all downhill after that.

I think the fact that all previous Super Bowls have been played in near ideal conditions is the reason why the team with the better regular season defense won almost every game.

Yes, had the Bears defense been entirely healthy (with Brown and Harris) it might have been a different, and probably would have at the very least been a closer, game. But injuries happen to all teams.

Certainly much to be proud of in the Bears season, but I wouldn't have been at all surprised if they had won.

They could have won, but they goal this year was to win it all after the disappointing early bow last post-season. So, it's an unfulfilled goal.

The chances to get to the big show are few as Bears and Colts fans know all to well.

: To the World Champion '08* Chicago Cubs! [*1908
: that is]

As I mentioned below, I write a column for the Wall Street Journal. With Les Cubbies up 3-1 in 2003, I started writing a Mark Prior's advantage over the Red Sox column. I also booked a hotel room in Chicago for the World Series, and called my 85-year old uncle to tell him I was coming.

As bad as painting the logo on the field, I guess.

While I do root for both teams (I'm more of a Cubs fan than a Sox fan, but the success of either team is good for the city.

Dusty Baker did bad things to that pitching staff. With Prior, Wood and Zambrano healthy they would have been perpetual contenders.

Well, I don't follow Baseball close enough to know any more. I followed them avidly as a kid, but 1969 (and 1970, etc.) disappointed me so often that I moved on to other sports.

I'll root for the Bulls too, but it's not the same without Michael, Scottie, etc.

FWIW, I used to live in Chicagoland, went to the U of C and lived there for a couple of years afterwards. I miss the baseball, but mostly I miss the food. Harold's Chicken. Ribs n Bibs. Hong Min in Chinatown. Giordano's Pizza. And a few other places gone but not forgotten.

Miller's Pub, Connie's Pizza, Red Hot Mama's, the Third Coast... Chicago is a hellova a town, I like it.

Don't miss the Vienna beef hot dogs and the Italian beef sandwiches too much though.

I'm sure they are an acquired taste!

best

Allen

Cheers!
