When Jeff mentioned historical watches, this is the first one to come to mind. It seems trivial now but when this watch hit the market, they couldn't make them fast enough. There had never been anything like a political statement on a watch before. You really had to have been there to get the historical impact if this watch. These were the craziest of times in the US. I was in my last year of college at the U of Wa. and when I saw it, I had to have one even though I didn't wear a watch most of the time. I had to wait several weeks to get my copy and I was lucky because I was dating a girl that worked at a department store where they were sold and she bought one for me as soon as the next shipment arrived. If you wanted to get a conservative REALLY riled up, all you have to do was show them the watch and they went our of their minds! (please lets not turn this into a political exchange - I'm pretty middle of the road now but I really couldn't stand Agnew at the time). Well I lost my original after about a year and The Dirty Time Company sold the rights to the watch and that company name was changed on the dial, so I didn't buy another because of that. The one show here is a mint original that I bought on eBay about 5 years ago and I still wear it occasionally.
It was all to perfect when he resigned in 1973 after he was charged with the crime of tax evasion.
I could go on and on about this but if you want to know more see:
