Some months ago, we saw the arrival of some Chinese-made chronographs, made to look very much like the Bundeswehr chronographs. No "Heuer" on the dial; some would call this a "homage" to the Bundeswehr; sales price in the $400 range, I believe. Here is a link to an auction, showing such a -- No-Name "Homage", which is shown below.
Well, we knew that it would only be a matter of time before someone put the "Heuer" logo on the dial, turning this "homage" into an outright fake. Here is a link to an auction for such an outright fake, shown below.
A reader points out that the easiest tip off for the novice is the caseback. The "homage" and fake have a notched screw-back, without the four corner-mounted screws that are a feature of the original. Also the movement of the fake is unmarked and stated to be a "Venus 175" rather than the Valjoux 23/230 of the original.
I will do a more permanent page on these, but wanted to publish this quick "Warning".
Thanks to one of our readers for providing this useful information.
