Guys:
I have been researching and writing a history of the Caliber 12 / Chronomatic movements and chronographs, and the first article of the three-part series appears in the March 2008 issue of International Watch magazine. This first article covers the background issues, describing why the chronograph manufacturers (including Heuer) felt that they needed to develop an automatic chronograph. This article also describes the formation of the joint venture between Heuer, Breitling, Buren and Dubois-Depraz. Here is a link to a webpage adaptation of the article -- Project 99 -- Part One. The March 2008 issue of International Watch may still be available on newsstands, so you may be able to get a "hard copy" for yourself.
For our readers outside the United States who may want to purchase a copy of the magazine, please send me an e-mail message, and I will do my best to arrange for shipment. We hope to have multiple copies available in Europe, for relatively economical shipping.
I hope that you will enjoy the article, whether in the magazine or through this webpage. Of course, comments, questions and discussion on this forum will be welcomed!!
