For Jeff and Abel..

and anyone else for that matter.
Close relatives, separated by 2+ years in the production line...

Pump pusher is ref. 6262, last of the pump pusher variety with steel bezels, replacing the 6239, and younger of the two..serial dates it to mid 1968
Screw down pusher is ref. 6240, first of the plastic bezel oyster variety, serial dates it to mid 1966..Both versions were the shortest runs produced of the daytonas.
Movements are almost identical, a few improvements here and there, but basically val. 72s a la Rolex..

Comparison shots to show pushers/crowns and bezel profiles..

Originally the 6240 had a slightly smaller crown that the one on the watch now, this one being a service crown as noted by the three dots under the rolex crown. It wouldnormally have a line under the Rolex crown, similar to that on the 6262
Case sizes are the same in diameter and depth, only difference is where the crown tube and pushers screw into the case

Bezel diameter difference is 1.2mm, plastic being the larger..
Dials are different for obvious reasons..the 6262 has daytona on it, and the 6240 has oyster on it (denoting screw down (waterproof) pushers)
One small detail is the running second hand on the 6240..stick as opposed to arrow tip..I've only seen one other like this, and yes it was on another early 6240..
The other small detail is the T SWISS T on the 6262 vs the OT SWISS TO on the 6240. Still looking into this...
Personal preference is the pump pusher variety, easier to operate the chrono, although the larger crown on the 6240 is easier to wind, but the plastic bezel gives the watch a larger feel....
no perfect watch...yet...
May need to customize this one....that would do it...

Cheers,
David
