Thanks for the interesting message and the link to the story about the Smithsonian.
I once heard that members of the public could write in to CBS, and ask for one of these stopwatches, and CBS would send them one of these stopwatches, free of charge. That might explain the abundance of them on ebay.
I assume that they covered / blocked / masked the Heuer logo because of the absence of any legal relationship (licensing, appearance money, etc.).
