He has left you with a very nice watch -- 18 karat gold, triple date moonphase chronograph, produced by Heuer circa 1980 to mark its 120th anniversary; known as the "Golden Hours" series. Shown below is the relevant page from 1984 catalog.
I would estimate the value in the $3,000 to $4,000 range, though the scarcity of the watch makes it difficult to provide a good estimate.
