The Valjoux 7736 seems to have been used in a broad variety of off-brand and low-end chronographs. It's difficult to say what is expensive and what isn't, but I would guess that you can find a chrono with good, solid Valjoux 7736 for less than $200. In a really ugly, no-name watch, you might find it closer to $100.
These are general impressions, as I have never really searched for these movements, as such.
