after watching ebay for some years, we are not surprised to see a crook steal an auction listing (as we saw with Stewart's NOS Monaco). it's interesting that if the thieves would steal the auctions from more common watches, which are less memorable, maybe there would be less chance of detection (but also lower profits).
Here is something even more outrageous: Thieves stealing an entire website from one of the leading vintage Rolex dealers, listing all the amazing watches for sale by the thief. Here is the Worldly Watches website, operated by the wonderful gentleman Stephane Medam.
And here is the stolen version of the website, called Vintage-Watches.com. Notice that the thief not only steals the listings of the watches; he even steals the brief biography that Stephane has provided regarding his background and interest in watches. The audacity is shocking! I suppose that with the first sale of a $30K watch, the development costs of the stolen website are covered.
It can get scary out there . . . got to be careful, as a buyer and as a seller.
