In the wake of yesterday's match, I thought it is worth asking our members whether there is any recollection of any association between heuer and football. We have a great European brand associated with motorsport, yachting, skiing, track and field, coming into its glory in the 1970s when Germany and Holland were fielding some of the greatest teams in history. It is hard to believe that Beckenbauer, Cruyff, etc. were completely unaware of Heuer, or that Jack never once thought that football would be a nice complemetn to the sporting portfolio. The only thing I can think of is that there is a bit of a working class sigma associated wih soccer, and perhaps Heuer consciously wanted to stee clear of that. Even so, lots of footballers are fascinated with speed and great cars, and there must be a record somewhere of this connection.
btw, Barcelona was very good, not quite at their ethereal level, but it was a triumph for dynamic creative soccer and also an affirmation that socce is by far the most "democratic" of our team sports; the only one where normal size people can excel.
