An "Interesting" Thing About His "Private" Auctions

With this seller, I have seen the following scenario, in a few instances:

  • he conducts a "private" auction, and we see the watch sell for a relatively low price . . . say $800

  • a few days later, the same watch is re-listed with a significantly higher BuyItNow / Best Offer price . . . say $1,500

I have watched two of his so-called "private" sales over the course of the last month; in each instance, we saw a watch "sell" in the private auction in the $700 to $900 range, and then a few days later he relisted it with a $1,500 BuyItNow / Best Offer. So this seller either has some bad luck with his "private" buyers (as they do not complete their purchases) or he is cheating in the "private" auctions, and his private buyers are shills / friends / second ebay ID. It is as if he uses the first "private" auction merely to test the market, and then he sets the real price, 80 to 100% higher.

Have others had better experiences with him?

:
: I have spoken with our best expert over here in the U.S., and he
: has never seen or heard of the Heuer "Indy".

: So we have the usual possibilities, which we have discussed so many
: times about so many watches: fake, in
: which case it seems to be very well done, in terms of the
: quality and finish,

: very low production / rare watch, and perhaps
: never sold in the United States so that our expert would not
: have seen or heard of it, or

: prototype, that never went into production.
: Of course, these last two possibilities (low production or
: prototype) raise the question of "what is it worth?"
: If it is a genuine Heuer, of low production and with the name
: "Indy" on the dial, that would seem to make it
: valuable. Others may simply view it as an oddball watch, from
: the years when Heuer was struggling, and ascribe little value to
: the name on the dial or the scarcity.
