Jeff - I don't mean to jump the gun on the "scan weekend" but I will be out of town this weekend and I just came across these pics the other day and thought I would post them. These were posted several years ago so some of you may remember this story.
The original watch was a "buy it now" on eBay in 2002 for $150.00! Luckily, I just happened to spot it just after it was listed while at work one day. The seller had no idea what it was. The upper end of the movement had a lot of rust damage but I was able to find all the needed parts to make repairs. The case has some pitting (that did not completely polish out) and the dial was completely shot. I sent the dial out to have it redone but while it was gone I found an NOS one that I paid more for than the watch - a lot in 2002. I also had the markers added to a plain outer ring (which was missing) using a pic of another watch as a reference. I never did find a set of correct hour and minute hands for this watch but a couple of years later I found the same watch complete (it was around $1100 then) and all original. I swapped dials and hands on these 2 watches and then sold the first one for more than I paid for the second one. What a happy ending - some watch deals never work out this good.
I have around 10 vintage Heuers now but this is still my favorite design. Craig
