Hi Mike.
: The usual response is that, in this market, gold watches trade at a
: discount to steel ones, as the preference is generally for tool
: watches to be in steel.
: However, I know from personal experience and from watching the
: market for some time before taking the plunge, that the gold
: Carrera after yours, the 1158, is only available for a
: considerable premium over the steel 1153.
:
:
: These are rare (150 made in total) and also have strong links to
: motorsport and Ferrari in particular, which may help to inflate
: both demand and the price, but the earlier solid gold Carreras
: (model reference 2456) are rare too. Most have a silver/white
: dial with no tachymeter, but if it has a red tachy scale, then
: it is much rarer again.
: In terms of value, any photos of the watch you can provide will
: definitely be of help. Plus, I'm also interested in the hands on
: the watch as we have seen two distinct types of hand on this
: watch while researching our Carrera table for the website and we
: have various theories around them that an unmolested example
: could help prove or disprove!
