One Caution:There are More Indy Dials than True Indy Watches
In Response To: Indy 500 Carreras ()

One thing to be aware of here: There are more Indy dials than true Indy watches, if you know what I mean. In other words, Heuer had the dials made up (let's say Number is X); Heuer then made up some watches produced for delivery to customers / Indy folks (let's say the number is .66X) . . . so now there are .33X dials remaining, still in the parts bin or on the shelf. Collectors paying the big bucks should be very cautious that their Indy dial was used in an actual watch, back in the 1960's . . . otherwise, you may be buying a rare dial, displayed in a common case, etc. We have seen this before, with a couple of Chrono-Matics.

Personally, if I were buying one of these, I would want to see some (light) scratches and maybe a little dirt or grime, and then check serial number, to be sure that I was buying a complete Indy watch, not just the Indy dial!

: Hi Indy fans, over time I have seen 5 Indy Carreras, two with
: Date at 12 silver dial, two with date at 9 silver dial and one
: with date at nine new old stock black dial.
: My three Carrera Indy watches have been originally coming from the
: US, one Carrera Date at 12 is still in the US and had a non
: heuer crown fitted.
: One is with Nic and can be seen on his webpage.
: What I have found out is that the watches were donated to Sponsors
: and Drivers of the Indy 500 race for promotion purposes.
: I have not encounted another Autavia so far which seems eralier to
: me than the first Indy Carrera ca 1966.
: Any more Indy Heuers out there ?

: Cheers
