here is my "period-correct" entry, from 1953 . . . yes, any Heuer Carrera would be too modern, and the triple calendars from the 1940's might be too dressy or fussy, so I would wear this one, in my big old Ford or Mercury!!

: Today I enjoyed (rather incidentally, I must confess) the transit
: stage of the Carrera Panamericana through my hometown of
: Guadalajara. It is really a thrill to see and, specially, to
: hear the highly modified participant cars which, by the rules,
: should be vehicles manufactured only between 1940 and 1954, so
: they could have competed in the original Panamericana, a race
: that took place from 1950 to 1954. Jo Ramirez, former team
: coordinator of the McLaren F1 team, is competing, driving a
: Volvo P1800.
: Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me, but you can check
: the webpage www.lacarrerapanamericana.com.mx for pictures and
: details. Highly recommendable! An English language feature is
: available.
: And yes, I was wearing my 1153 Carrera!
