Yes these are moving slowly at the £4000-£4500 level. I believe the £6000+ cost new level was excessive and as you say you can but a mint original for this price with ease. £4000 - £4500 is about right and i have even seen the odd one sell under £4000...
I'd suggest at that price point there isn't much downside risk and you have then got a waterproof version, albeit with not such a nice case, pushers, dial etc...(its the details that are missing for me on the re-edition, a bit like comparing a re-dial original Monaco with a true original).
