There are so many different approaches, and TAG-Heuer seems to be using all of them:

(a) attempts to replicate the originals, with some compromises in materials / movements . . . the 40th Anniversary Monaco and Silverstone Limited Edition come to mind, as well as some of the early Carrera re-issues.

(b) adding some decoration to a previously bland series of re-issues . . . Gulf series of Monacos, in white or black, compared with the original series of Monaco re-issues.

(c) inspired by the originals, but taking the look and technology in some bold, new directions . . . Monaco 24 or Grand Carrera RS2

Of course, there are many more approaches / many more examples.

So which are our favorite re-issues? Which have we bought / will we buy? Which have been successful for the brand? Which have added to the mystique (or value) of the originals?

In order to help me focus on the issue of homages, re-editions, re-issues, etc., I drove the old guy into the office this morning. Interesting that automotive technology has improved so much over the past 33 years; with the watches, we seem to be satisfied with the 1967 / 69 technology, and we seem to prefer the original materials / finish.

My favorite question about the new and old Minis: When people ask me "How are they different?".
