Jeff you are correct, the cal 11,12,14,15s all have semi quickset date and you can advance the date in exactly the manner described.

I am informed that the pawl that advances the date is quite fragile and made of a plastic type material so be careful when advancing the date by this method to avoid any possible damage to the mechanism. basically don't wind to quickly and make sure the hands have gone back to 9 and forward to 12.30 so the date is fully advanced (if anyone knows differently please post more info)

Also please remember that this feature is quite unusual and turning the hands in reverse on most calendar watches can damage them.
