Great Topic; Let Me Add Three
In Response To: I agree ()

Great topic, Mark . . . and your top five (or is it nine?) is a great group of chronographs. As I read your message, three Autavias came to mind, as favorites / important ones in the history of the Autavia line.

  • First is the "Viceroy" . . . this one had the classic black, red and white color scheme . . . whether we are looking at the early ones (Derek Bell) or the later ones, in the larger cases, this is a classic Autavia color scheme. Yes, we love the white, blue and black of the Sifferts, but I have to put the black, red and white of the Viceroys on ths list. I choose the Viceroy model, because it was so popular, and it allowed anyone with $88 to have a fine racer's chronograph.
  • Next, I wanted to add the 73633 Israeli military Autavia . . . you have shown the big black one (perhaps for the colonel or general, or the Navy diver), so let's add this one for the sargeant. I see that Jarl had the same idea.
  • Finally, I want to add a GMT Autavia to the list, to bring in the red and blue colors. I will add the Zodiac GMT, as a representative of the 2446 Autavias, and also to carry the flag of the "poor men" to the party.
So whether we have three Autavias or thirteen, let's salute the Autavias. Perhaps someday we will see a re-issue of the re-issue, in a more successful model. In the meanwhile, these can be the secret treasures of the vintage collectors.
