Well done Andy,
And happy this one landed in your hands eventually!
Seems to be a nice buy considering the original pictures included in the auction.
Also nice work from Nic, as usual!
Wear it in good health Andy,
Cheers,
Abel.
: Guys,
: Apologies for the long post...
: I know some of you either know already or may have guessed that I
: was the lucky, winning bidder of the PVD Monaco on eBay a few
: weeks back.
: As soon as I saw the auction I was determined I had to have it.
: As Rich will testify this was exactly what I was looking for.
: NOS is pointless to me.
: I've 2 x 3 year old boys at home obsessed with 'Daddy's watches'.
: I'm also a car nut and spend a lot of time under the bonnet (or
: hood!?).
: So, it doesn't take long for my watches to bear the scars of my
: homelife.
: Like many of of you, I also got limited replies to questions from
: the vendor so it could've proved to be an expensive gamble.
: I decided that if I was going to stand a chance I needed all the
: help I could get so it was also my 1st experience of sniping.
: Well actually my second as I had a trial run a few days before to
: check it worked and we won a pack of dustbin liners- result :-)
: I was at work when the auction ended and had my finger poised to
: intervene in the dying seconds expecting the snipe to fail.
: Anyway just as it was ending my boss approached with a bunch of
: questions that needed answering so I missed the end-
: nightmare!!!
: What a result when i checked what had happened - I couldn't believe
: my eyes :-)
: I was the new owner of a PVD Monaco!!!
: It was close though and my maximum (a combination of my lucky
: numbers) wasn't that far away.
: Turns out the vendor was a great guy and extremely honest offering
: to refund part of the postage as it was actually slightly
: cheaper in the end.
: Anyway, here's how the watch arrived.
: The glass was polished so hard that all edges were rounded and it
: was worn so thin I nearly put my thumb through it, seriously :-)
:
: You can see the extent of the dirt and grime which was actually
: mainly superficial and thankfully not so difficult to remove.
:
: Back together with a new glass it looked pretty good but although
: working, the dial wasn't attached to the movement so only worked
: upside down :-)
: It also required a good service.
: All of this was beyond my scope so Nic Green (aka HeuerBoy) offered
: his services.
: He also suggested repainting the chrono hands as they were in a
: pretty sorry state.
:
: So, here we are 3 weeks later and what a beauty :-)
:
: Fantastic job!!! I'm so pleased with the results. No major
: restoration, just sensitively brought back to life.
: Thanks Nic for your help.
