Indeed Arno all good points, the word of mouth is certainly spreading, of course the downside mans that pieces we would like to buy will likely carry on getting more expensive - word of mouth and increased interest almost always add up to increasing value, especially when the available supply is so small.
You compare to Rolex and i do think that there are many reasons why Rolex collectors seem to be adding Heuer to their watch lists. As you say they are quality timepieces, well engineered with a totally different design ethos. Of course the purple pathc is very "of its time" and the 1980s is very "in2 at the moment. Will/could tha change in the future? Well its possible it could, Rolex are classics and have always been the same and therefore there seems much less chance of fashion being onvolved whereas right now Heuer is "fashionable".
However syaing that i do believe the motorsport angle adds much to the brand, motorsport and motorsport heroes willcontinue to pull on the heartstrings of collectors of watch and racing fans and i do see prices continuing to rise steadily in the future. I do not think it unreasonable that some of the very rare pieces (PVD Monaco, Chronomatics of all, the rarest Carreras etc) will see some very high prices being paid in the future, if the rarest Rolex's can be worth £50k+ its not far away imo that the rarest Heuers are touching far higher values than now. Of course in the past year alone 5 or 6 pieces have already gone through the five figures (£s) barrier...
Its a very interesting subject.
Rich
: Heuer had a very steady growth, there was no real hype and
: Cheers
: Arno
: only a rather small group of collectors. Now with the
: international campaign and all the press stories this has
: changed. Also when I started collecting there was hardly any
: information available, today we have at least 10 sites on the
: web talking about Autavias, Silverstones and Monacos. It is easy
: for newbies to ask questions onthedash, vintage heuer,
: vetroplastica which spreads the word of mouth further. Rare
: watches and top quality will always work well, look at the early
: speedys and the seamaster 300 royal navy which had a steady
: increase after omegamania. There are professional dealers linked
: to the forums which supply honest watches. All in all a pretty
: amazing infrastructure !!
: Lots of work done time to enjoy ;-))
: A pity is that good watches are getting so scarce to find and
: production volumes have been low compared to Rolex, is Heuer the
: next coming topbrand, yes for sure, as the brand has all
: important parameters > good movements, fantastic designs,
: diversive portfolio, rare variations, low volumes and many good
: stories to tell.
: There is still lots to discover !
: Good Heuer hunting...
