I admire Rolex for their brand values, recordnition and amazing marketing, however the portfolio is less creative than on Heuers. The cases are very similar on various models and very few chronographs. Chronographs are interesting for car people, Rolex has one model with a credible link to motorsports, Heuer has Autavia, Carrera, Modena, Monaco, Monza, Jarama, Jacky Ickx, Camaro.....
I have done this year autoshows in Paris, Monaco, Goodwood and there was an incredible interest for my Heuer watches. I got often the question why are these watches still so cheap...
Many new collectors already have a completely different price sensitivity and for a car guy who buys a 200000 $ car a Mc Queen Monaco seems a bargain...
And Rich as you said so rightly there is steady growing demand and the available top pieces change hands very quickly.
Good Heuer hunting it is an amazing watch brand and the only one with many period photographs showing drivers from the heydays of motorsport wearing these !!
