I haven't checked a dictionary yet, but in terms of the vintage watch world, I think of "patina" as the natural aging / color change of paint or lume. The lume shown on the two Monacos (below) has this "patina".

I have never thought of "patina" as describing nicks, scratches and wear on a case, but perhaps other use the term this way.
