OK, OK . . . so we went crazy with the Monacos on Thursday, celebrating Thomas's heroic acquisition, enduring a very difficult seller over an extended period, to bring a super rare Monaco into the OnTheDash family.

Well, my new Carrera didn't involve battling a seller, and it took seven days, from beginning to end, but it did involve battling some other last-second bidders (snipers), on eBay.

I was determined to bring this one home because:

• It has a hex back
• The movement is marked "Ed. Heuer"
• It has the lowest serial number of any Carrera that I have seen
• the condition is absolutely amazing
• I like the "Fisher" story
• the seller is a nice guy who seems to find lots of old Heuers
