Re: The Label "Viceroy" May be Like the Label "Siffert"

Thanks Jeff,

So, in summary - would it ever be possible that you could find a watch identical to the photo below with a Cal. 11 movement??
Also, how do you identify a cal. 11-I from a Cal. 11 ??

Stewart

: The term "Viceroy" is sometimes like the term
: "Siffert", unclear whether we are talking about a
: color scheme, one particular execution of a watch, or a group of
: similar models.

: To my way of thinking, a "Viceroy" is a black-dial
: automatic Autavia, with the following features: 12 numerals on
: the hour recorder (rather than the earlier 3-6-9-12) polished
: markers, with white inserts in the middle (rather than the
: earlier ridged markers) brushed steel hands, with red inserts
: proximal (toward the center pinion) and luminous material distal
: (away from the center pinion), and red triangular tips the ones
: actually sold in the Viceroy promotion (for $88) had Tachy
: bezel; some sold directly through Heuer dealers had the MH
: (minutes / hours bezel), whereas all earlier ones (sometimes
: called "Derek Bells") had MH bezel . . . but, to my
: way of thinking, the MH bezel alone does not take a watch out of
: the "Viceroy" category, if it has the features
: described in 1 through 3 above movement will be Call 11-I or
: Cal 12, but NOT the Cal 11 . . . the Viceroys were introduced
: around 1972, which was well after we saw the last Cal 11. case
: maye be marked 1163 or 1163V (whereas earlier ones (the
: "Bells" and the Sifferts) will always have the plain
: 1163) As always, other thoughts or opinions will be welcomed . .
: . different folks may use the word "Viceroy" in
: different ways; of course, what makes this difficult is that the
: term was probably never used by Heuer, as such, at least not in
: published documents and descriptions.
