From my angle, I can understand it, just.
Say you have a £5-10k watch.. paying £500+ for a period box doesn't seem so bad, especially as it has a market value, you could sell anytime & get your outlay back (hopefully).
I suppose it's a bit like the classic car guys that will pay a fortune for a vintage part, when a modern equivalent is available at 1/10th the cost.
