I also have a 53xxx carrera, but I am a bit confused as I thought hex backs were the first of the Carreras and in another post on OtD (don't have the link) it is mentioned (I think by Jeff) that hex backs are SN 563xx - 572xx, whilst the carrera I have is not hex back (but is Ed Heuer signed).
Interestingly, Arno mentions in this thread that early Carreras had a big font serial number inscription - this is definitely the case for my one - the SN numbers look like the big font used on the val72 1950s watch I have (I think Jeff called that model "old clunker").
Any comments? Ron, is you carrera a hex back? Does it have the old style big font on the serial number?
