The tragedy of Siffert's death was that it was avoidable. But then, that becomes part of his legacy with vastly improved safety standards, as driven forward by Jackie Stewart. Incredible that some of his F1 colleagues accused him of cowardice. Still, there are no onboard fire extinguishers in F1 even now and it's sobering that a functioning fire extinguisher that might have saved Seppi lead to the horrific accident involving Tom Pryce a few years later (really, don't look that one up if you don't know it, you're better off not knowing. Seriously). Motorsport will always be dangerous but I'm thankful it's so rarely fatal now - you only need look at Perez and Petrov's accidents in Monaco this year.
Anyway, enough grimness and onto the watches. Great watches but the photos go to show that colourful NATOs belong on only a few watches - and Autavias aren't one of them! Honestly, what were they thinking?!
