Per the Bonhams "Results" listings, seems that he paid £1,560 for the watch, including the buyer's premium. That seems like an OK price for this one.
Maybe he is hoping to turn a slight profit on the watch, through the eBay sale, to build enthusiasm and support for his collecting hobby!!
