I would agree that the value of the quartz watches is pretty static compared to the automatics and manuals.
This year has seen some pretty hefty prices asked for Carrera Twins and, as a result, I haven't seen those watches selling. I've never had to break the 300,- € mark for a quartz Carrera in the 5 years or so I've been buying them (they didn't interest me when I started my collection), so I think that's their natural sort of level. Strange to think they once had price parity with the automatics! The Ford watches go considerably higher thanks to scarcity and I haven't been watching them closely, but they don't seem to have increased hand in hand with what we've seen for the mechanical watches over the past few years.
I think part of the reason for the relatively static prices you touch on there Arno - a decent watchmaker can usually coax some life from a mechanical movement, but some of these quartz movements are simply basket cases when they fail. There is some possibility of donor movements for something simple like the Twins, but Chronosplits and the Ford are more difficult as they are more specialised. There's always that risk that you're left with an expensive paperweight so there is some reticence in sinking the same sort of money into these as mechanical watches. Nonetheless, they're an interesting and important part of Heuer's history, not to mention the watch of choice for Gilles Villeneuve, over and above his 1158.
