Thanks for everyone's replies. What I don't 'get' is this.. why are we so cautious? Why aren't we all confident to get 'em wet?
If I buy a brand new quality watch, a modern TAG Heuer, Sinn etc etc, it will be waterproof, 50m, 100m, 200m, 300m whatever, at the very minimum, easily capable to withstand rain.
Now take a late 70's Autavia (as an example).. it's a metal case, nothing has changed.. there is no wear to the metal areas where the pushers & crown are.. so if it has been resealed, why on earth should it be any different to a brand new watch? At the very minimum, it should be splash-proof.

: Possibly, but better safe than sorry - can get a bit humid under
: Gore-Tex too, so you might get a little fogging if the crystal
