I was hpoing that you would weigh in on this subject, as I recalled your previous messages supporting the authenticity of the "square-waffles-at-2-4-8-10" / short-handed Monacos. Let's have a look at the photos and see what else we can learn.
This is a very difficult one to figure out. It was so much easier, on the oversized "Targa Florio" fakes, when I was able to call the casemaker, in Poland, and he said "Oh yes, I made those . . . just a few weeks ago". We do not seem to have such a "smoking gun" here, and in fact they may be genuine. That is why, for the time being, I am careful to call them "questionable".
Thanks,
Jeff

: Hello all,
: After following the debate and postings
: recently on the above topic I'm compelled to
: post a reply.
: I'm not conviced that the, lets call it the
: "square waffle" indicies dial, is
: non-original.
: I have just raided the safe and looked at two
: NOS three register Monaco dials I have.
: One a blue with white sub dials, the other a
: very rare silver mirror dial with white sub
: dials.
: (I will photograph these tomorrow under
: sunlight to give the best reproduction,
: Jeff, can you please post them on my behalf)
: These two dials are NOS and are
: similar/different: One is a "square
: waffle" indicies design and the other
: is the "jewel" type indicies
: design. Both have similar design/markings
: and the rear of the dials are similar, as is
: the construction of them as far as I can
: tell.
: Let us allow the photos to illustrate the point
: tomorrow !
: Also, I checked my pretty extensive Monaco
: picture files, and I have to say that the
: "square waffle" type dial Monacos
: outnumber the "jewel" ones.
: Yes, the "square waffle" dials seem
: to have the smaller hands.
: I just do not believe that the sheer weight of
: numbers of the "square waffle/small
: hands" Monacos I have recorded can
: constitute them as "fakes".
: (generally vintage Monacos have been void of
: fakes due to their scarcity and, until
: recently, their "undesirability"-
: of course the opposite is the case now as
: they are highly sought after)
: Anyway.....I look forward to sharing them with
: the OTD team over the weekend.
: And thus continuing this debate.
: Cheers to all
: Stewart.
