I just went back to read the old thread from 2004 and saw Chuck's post. Wow, that brought me back to when I first discovered OTD, when my only real interest was dash timers for my Healey. And Chuck's post got me started on my '64 Omega Speedmaster cal. 321.
What tends to be confusing, at least to me, is that over time, interest seems to spread to watches that didn't spark a great deal of interest at first. When I first saw the Monaco, I frankly didn't like it at all. It was less a tool watch and more a novelty. Since then, Monacos have become all the rage around here, while Autavias and Carreras have become more pedestrian, perhaps because most of us have one or more and seem to always be looking for something new to obsess over.
And the one "trick" all of us truly want is to make that great find, the inadvertant BIN for $500, the steal, or the Chronomatic that stuck its head out of the sock draw for the first time in 40 years.
