Might have been either originally. When restoring these, there often seems to be a scramble to find a signed crown, any signed crown, resulting in crowns that aren't wide enough and often too thick. I've even seen steel ones used. The one on there doesn't seem too far off compared to some. I think you could live with it for a while whilst looking out for a wide, thin original crown. Should be gently domed too, like this:
That's an 18K watch, hence the gold caseback, but it shows an original signed crown off well. Arno's, not mine, but it's a lovely little thing, the 2456.
