There has been a new scam going around on ebay, I almost got caught but the seller would not complete the transaction through ebay, I backed out and reported it because it was an obvious scam.

In my case the seller was offering a $5-$8k longines chrono for starting $2,500, and offering to end the auction early for an offer. After several emails and exchanges of phone numbers I could not get her on the phone but she wanted to bill me by paypal.

I checked ended auctions and the watch had sold a week earlier in another part of the country for $6k.

I checked the rest of her offerings and they too had all been recently sold.

All the watch pictures were pirated and still contained the legit sellers watermark.

I spent several hours on the phone trying to get about 5 watches pulled down from ebay over a two day period.

I am sure several people got stuck.

Ebay eventually called me and said the seller was legit and her account was hacked.

The seller continued to solicit me through ebay messaging for another day.

3 full days of unmitigated scamming.

The whole scam was predicated of course on greed/the thrill of finding a good deal first.

Luckily I did my homework.
