Jeff,
the photo is from a OTDer friend (museum) who was at the event this morning, he posted also on an italian forum.
He was amazed when saw Forghieri, and after introducing himself noticed his 1158CHN on the wrist.
Mr. Forghieri showed him the watch, on the backcase there was the witness of an engraving: still hardly possible to read his name and some words where Jack Heuer said he was grateful for his collaboration.
About how he obtained the watch, he said that since Heuer was a sponsor, he and other people of the team asked for having a watch.
It did not arrive, so they had to insist for some time until Heuer came out with about 10 golden Carreras, for him, the pilots, and the team board.
This is another confirmation that the watch was not born when the partnership with Ferrari began, but was in regular production since the Chronomatic launch.
About the technical partnership, he was happy to remember that the Ferrari team had much interest in improving the accuracy of timing, so they experimented the first electronic timers together.
There was a period when Ferrari was the only team with electronic timing equipment, they took the lap times of all the cars on the track for comparison, and it happened that also opponent teams were forced to ask to Ferrari about their performances...
Really a fair play completely lost today!
But let's wait for Museum writing out more details...
: Paolo:
: Did you take today's photo? Whether it was you or someone else, can
: you please tell us the circumstances?
: If an Heuer could talk, and tell us some stories, this might be the
: best of all. Every nick and scratch would be special!!
: Amazing to see all these photos!! Thanks so much for posting them.
: Jeff
