I'm guessing that's an unknown Simon. I could have been forced in place, but I'd hazard a guess that they do fit - based on the notion that I presume someone wouldn't be so daft as to force something that doesn't fit into place.
As for the condition of the dial, I'm also guessing that it has had moisture damage, all the printing is sort of 'rough around the edges'. To me, the watch would be worth a punt as a beater/restoration project if it were under $1k.
