The Futurematic is a great and unique movement design. There is no other like it. The mainspring is preloaded with 1 to 1.5 turns at the arbor so that when the bumper auto winder starts the movement, the mainspring has enough pressure to bring it up to speed within a few seconds. It cannot be manually wound. Also, it has no bridle at the outer end of the mainspring like most auto winds that allows the mainspring to slip and not become wound tight (I won't use the term "overwound" which is a mith - another story). The Futurematic has a stop that blocks the bumper rotor from winding it too tight.
I have serviced over 50 of these movements in the last 12 years and over 75% of them will not run properly because the watchmakers who serviced them did not have the repair manual and did not know the mainspring has to be preloaded. There are other issues with this movement that make having the factory repair manual mandatory to get it right.
This watch is a great addition to any vintage collection. Craig
