Fantastic Paul - it is good to see it on that bracelet for the first time, so cheers - and great tips too - I'm afraid my camera (which I was just getting the hang of - a GF3) is with my wife on holiday while I have to use the works circa. 1956 digital monstrosity...!
Yes - the SAAF is a great favourite of mine, I'm quite Lemaniacentric in taste as you can tell, but the 523 is a great example of the Heuer/Lemania period, a watch that I would venture does not undignify the Heuer name and is just a fab watch to wear and read, a little gem - and I'm not generally quite so effusive about new acquisitions...
Andy
: Great review Andy. Only when you have one on the wrist do you
: appreciate the benefits of this or any other watch. Pictures
: tell some of the story but not the whole story. I was intrigued
: to see the comparison with the SAAF Lemania. I have been
: interested in that watch for some time but never seen it in the
: metal. Now I have a better idea of size and proportion.
: Regards the bracelet I thought I would shoot some pics of mine to
: illustrate. For those interested I maximised the depth of field
: by taking multiple shots varying the focus and then combining
: them in photoshop. In most cases an SLR lens achieves its best
: results in terms of clarity with an f/stop (aperture) of 8.
: Obviously the smaller the aperture the greater the depth of
: field but image quality is compromised. This technique maintains
: quality and achieves virtually any level of depth of field
: (focus) you want. The first picture was a combination of 7
: images and the second was 4. This technique is often seen in
: commercial watch photography where the subject is pin sharp from
: front to back. Digital photography and Photoshop CS5 have
: changed the depth in depth of field forever.
: You will of course note that my example has the orange hour
: register hand. The previous owner had it serviced by TAG Heuer
: is Switzerland and I assume they made the change. I think it
: works well visually adding that additional bit of colour
: especially when the chrono is reset to zero.
: regards
: Paul
