Heuer at the Olympics 2012...

It was really a fun couple of weeks with the Olympics in London. The majority of the country, and the tourists who came for the games, loved it. Great sport, a friendly open atmosphere (not normal in major global cities), some really historic locations, cool British creativity and self deprecating humour in the opening ceremony (and to a lesser extent in closing), and actually pretty good organisation, which was surprising to a lot of people. Congratulations to Team GB, for it's best ever medal haul (London 1908 hardly counts as a large majority of the athletes were British). Congratulations to Team USA, back at the top of the medal table.

It was really difficult to get tickets, but I managed to source tickets for a couple of the events which were not in much demand. Apologies for the pic quality, but it's hard to get sports photos from the stands, rather than trackside with the photojournalists. Anyway, here is the obligatory Heuer shot:

The match is the Brazil-South Korea football/soccer (select as per your preference) semi-final. I'd like to say I wore the Regatta to commemorate GB's success in the rowing and sailing events, but it's mainly because it is a beater so don't have to worry about it getting ruined in the chaos of 70,000 people.

Many of the events were held right in the middle of historic and picturesque London locations, which really added to the spectacle. The beach volleyball was held in the Mall, right in the heart of London right between Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street (the PM's residence). Here's a pic of the stands:

And you can't mention the 2012 Olympics without mention THE man:

It was near impossible to get tickets for any of the sprint finals, this was taken at the 200m qualifying heats. The personal highlight of the games for me (among many highlights) was watching the mens 4x100 sprint relay final on a giant screen at the Jamaica "fan zone" with thousands of Jamaicans going crazy.

And from one legend to another. The US Womens Basketball team gets pretty much no publicity, considering it has the mind blowing record of never having lost an olympics match, not even a meaningless qualifying match, since 1992! This is from the final, not exactly an exciting match (final score 86:50), but pretty fun:
