I have a small watch collection that includes 3 Omegas, Eternamatic 3000, and a older Sinn quartz. My watches are not just to look at but to wear.
I recently got interested in Heuer and Tag watches because my jeweler offered to sell me a vintage Heuer Tag 1000 dive watch. I purchased the dive watch and started looking around the Internet to learn more about the Heuer. Today, I stumbled upon a Autavia (my favorite of the chronographs) that another jeweler who is a friend of the family had just finished reconditioning and servicing. Cosmetically it looks great, and he advises that it is in good condition. From research, I believe it is one of the "Viceroy" models. The asking price of $1500 is more than I have general paid for my watches but does not seem unreasonable based upon my exploration on the Chronotrader forum. Apparently it isn't a bargain since the Viceroy is the model that is most abundant and commands the lowest price.
I would like to purchase the watch to wear on a regular basis. MY QUESTION: Is this a watch that, despite its age, if worn regularly can be expected to keep accurate time and continue to function for several years if cared for or is it more appropriately a watch to be dsiplayed?
Any other advise or thoughts would be welcome. Please correct any mistaken conclusions that i have reached.
Thanks.
