Correct at 4:27.0 . . . But Could Felix Have Operated It?
In Response To: 4:27.0! ()

You are correct, with this reading . . . here's the Hodinkee illustration that can be helpful for us novices --

I have to think that a Zenith employee let the chrono run to this 4:27.0 mark, before the photo shoot . . . seems so unlikely that Felix could have (a) used his left hand to start the chrono, which was on his right wrist, just when he started the jump, and (b) then stopped the chrono at the very end of his free fall. But, then again, Felix did some amazing things on Sunday!!

I'll have to check the video, but can't recall that he started a timer at the start of the free fall. John Glenn was busy at the time of his launch, so his watch was pre-set to the 20 second mark. Of course, Felix could have used this same approach, but can't recall that on the audio transmission. All this calls for a bit more research!!

: Red center sweeper makes one revolution in 10 seconds, 1/10ths of a

: squarely on the "7" so 7.0
: Blue subdial is an echoing seconds counter that makes 1 complete
: revolution in 60 seconds, so 20
: Brown subdial is a 60 minute counter, here somewhat obscured by the
: minute hand, but it looks like it's at 4.

: So 4 min, 27.0 seconds - freefall time?
