The final nail in the coffin for me..

I hear you Darren - and Vince, I know what you mean about getting (even a Heuer) a watch and it not feeling 'right'.
As I said before, when it comes to vintage watch passion, price isn't a primary concern (within reason), in the sense that even someone with mild means could save and buy a Viceroy or a Monnin, or a Sub - or whatever, there are some really nice vintage watches that can be had for £200. But, the outlay for a nice basic sub, say a 5513 comes close to a rarer Heuer, and that for me is the clincher. I like to spend time looking at various sites - like Tigas FlickR page and Paul's Heuerworld.. and I see something like a 1st exec dial Autavia (with the arabic 12 etc), and I realise that given the choice, I'd have one of those over a sub at the drop of a hat. I know that's not a particularly good way of looking at it, but that's what I think, and I can't help that.

Again, this isn't a Rolex bashing thing, I would really want one, they are beautiful, but the 'feeling' isn't there. If anything I think a blue Snowflake would/could be the answer, as it's more quirky, more Heuer-ish in it's 'underdog' status.

: This works for me

:
:

: Essentially the same watch at 10 times the price ( with a R**** )
: name on the dial does not work for me!

: I'm a memeber of a number of watch forums and feel i must almost
: bite my tongue when members post their special R****'s up with a
: price tag that equals Chronomatic in our world.
: I dont know if i'm being ignorrant on the matter but subjectively i
: accept that we all have different tastes in vintage watches.
: At the end of the day i quote Crosby , Stills & Nash "love
: the one you with" . (significantly this song written by
: Stephan Stills is considered one of the motivational forces
: behind Neil Young's decision to want to join the band. - If i
: could go back in time to any concert i think i would choose
: Crosby , Stills , Nash and Young pre 1976 before the ravages of
: the heroin cancer took control of the band )
: Ah i'm off on a tangent again - Sorry folks - too much red wine
: tonight , Darren
