: I'd completely forgotten about this.. and a recent news story
: (about Spitfires) reminded me. A guy I used to work with, who is
: also married to a current work college, hitch a lift in a P51D
: Mustang.
: I can't remember the exact details, but there are a couple of old
: timers that own two Mustangs, and they display them at a annual
: 'Historic US Military' show near where they live. It's a fairly
: small occasion, but a real enthusiast thing. People turn up in
: full WWII US uniform, driving restored Jeeps, Tanks, personnel
: carriers etc. Their wives dress up in 40's style too..
: Anyway, you can buy a ride in the Mustang (if the pilot/owner
: 'knows' you), but it ain't cheap - think around about the same
: as a pretty rare 60's Carrera! But this is 'once in a lifetime'
: type stuff... my friend got lucky, there was a last minute
: cancellation, and got a ride at a seriously discounted rate.
: This was back in July 2011. The huge bonus is that BOTH Mustangs
: go up - a rare thing - this means you get to see another flying
: in formation & swooping around.
: Enjoy the pics.. over the East of England, Norfolk & Suffolk
: borders. (pics taken by my friend and his wife, I wasn't there
: unfortunately)
