Within POA Guys, Some Better than Others / Naming Names

There are a couple of dealers who use "POA", who I will send the inquiry to . . . these are the ones who will reply quickly, with what seems to be a reasonable price.

Most of the POA dealers seem slow to reply, with unreasonably high prices, so I don't even bother with them. For many of them, quoting a $5,000 price on an old Heuer (that is probably worth $3,000) seems like too much of a burden. There are a couple of POA dealers who seem to be quick and courteous, with reasonable prices, but these are the exceptions.

In response to a couple of inquiries, I am comfortable posting that it was WannaBuyWatch and Matthew Bain who prompted yesterday's rant. WannaBuyAWatch, in Los Angeles, is one of my favorite dealers, and I called owner Ken Jacobs, just to chat and catch up. WannaBuyAWatch lists prices on every watch that I have ever been interested in, and Ken is an awesome guy. I have bought a few amazing watches from Ken, and would trust him in absolutely any situation. Enough said!!

: OK, so I just received a listing of some amazing vintage watches
: offered for sale via 1stDibs . . . some fantastic looking
: watches!!

: Two dealers are responsible for most of theses vintage listings . .
: . (A) one dealer lists a price for each watch that he offers for
: sale and (b) the other dealer uses "Price Upon
: Request" for almost all his listings.

: I remain at a loss to understand why a dealer uses the "Price
: Upon request" approach, in this era of transparency,
: instant information, etc., especially with some
: "commodity" type watches. Can anyone defend, explain,
: justify or endorse this practice?

: OK . . . rant over . . . I feel better already!!
