I have a gut feeling that this would be one of those 'little jobs' that turns into a nightmare that you'll wish you hadn't started!
The likelihood is that and glue will have soaked into the finish.
If you still fancy a crack at it - try a very small amount of glue remover on a tiny area, see how you get on.
