Wow, I'm surprised by the responses. I thought the answer is always bracelet, what ever the case. We could do a poll for a 1960s Carrera or Autavia. Anyone who prefers the strap is welcome to swap a double GF with me for a original corfram strap!
For me the same goes (pretty much) for the Monaco. I agree it looks good on a strap, but Monacos always look good. The PVD is even good on a NATO (ok, probably a step too far for many of you).
Jeff, I am surprised at your dog metaphor, the original chain link bracelet is a pure first of breed - not some mongrel! It looks great on a chronomatic or transitional. And I think the Mk2 bracelet is great on a 1133B but makes the watch on the 1533 series, especially the 1533 silver dial.
So my vote is for bracelet. So what if Mcqueen and Sammy Davis Jnr wore a strap, they were hardly icons of cool.... err... oops.
