An Explanation of the Short Hands / Stopwatch Inspired
In Response To: Real or photoshop? ()

The new line of Carreras uses a "stopwatch inspired" arrangement for the dial, in which you are reading the time of day on the smaller / inset area of the dial (darker, anthracite gray in the sample shown below), and you are reading the seconds on the outer track (silver / white in the sample shown below). Have a look at the cover of the 1963 catalog, where we are reading minutes (on the inner track) with the shorter hand and seconds (on the outer track) with the longer hand.

Personally, I am a huge fan of the stopwatch inspired design, as we saw on the Mikrograph. There is nothing that is more a part of the Heuer heritage than stopwatches, and I like the idea of paying tribute to this heritage in the new line of Carreras. Reading the seconds on this outer track helped legibility in 1963 and it helps legibility in 2013!!
