: But are you sure that's not William Shatner standing in for Johnny
: Rutherford?! Doesn't normally look like him, but he does
: there...
Johnny is still very active working for Indycar and IMS. He may have a bit of the Shatner look but I think his is in a lot better shape. He is really a wonderful guy.
: And you can tell the difference between generations, over and above
: the obvious age gaps - AJ Foyt looks twice as broad as
: Franchitti or Castroneves!
AJ is way over weight. His PR woman had me re-light his portrait several times to thin him down as much as possible. All of these guys who raced in the '70's and 80s have terrible feet and ankles because the open wheel cars of the time offered almost no protection in the front. Rick Mears feet are a mess and both of AJ's ankles probably need to be fused. The driver from that era who still seems to be in good shape is Parnelli Jones. He does 100 pushups and 100 situps every morning. I shook hands with him yesterday and it felt like he could crush me.
BTW, the pole for the Indy 500 was won by a small independent team owned by the Driver of the car Ed Carpenter. The second fastest was the young rookie Carlos Munoz. The new cars are perfect for this track. There will be a lot of passing and strategy. This should be a fantastic rac.
