I enjoyed a weekend of vintage auto racing at Infineon Raceway (formerly Sears Point) in Sonoma, CA with my two sons a few weeks ago. A special side display included two unbelievably rare and expensive autos: the owner of a 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, with Rudge knockoffs, and the 1972 Porsche 917/10 which won the Can-Am series in 1972 by George Follmer, proudly displayed them with access so close you could just about jump in them and drive away! The 917 was just bought at auction for $5.5 million and the 300SL was just purchased for $1.1 Million. I drooled!
